VNFC’s Elders Room houses the Indigenous Culture & Traditions team, welcoming a few visitors at a time (during COVID-19 health precautions as we serve Old Ones/Elders). The room includes comfortable seating, dining table and hutch with Muskikiwapoy/Medicine Teas. We are Grateful for the beautiful Indigenous Mural “Gilakasla” meaning “Thank You,” designed by Jamin Zuroski, Namgis First Nations Artist who described his art: Thank you Elders for guiding our youth and families to strong and healthy minds. Thank you for your courage, wisdom and honouring the traditions of our peoples. You each provide clear focus and open pathways which make our journeys successful and memorable. VNFC’s founding members continue to provide Advisory and celebrated VNFC’s 50 years in 2021. Since 2018, the Indigenous Culture & Traditions Coordinator has been engaging recognized Indigenous Elders to provide Advisory services and support, currently honored to be connected to 29, of which 22 are casual Elder and Senior employees. VNFC’s program teams ensure Indigenous culture and values are incorporated in all aspects from program concepts, to delivery. The ICT Coordinator and Elders Support helper engages Elders for VNFC program teams, and are very proud how involved they are today within programs. With a newly established Culture position, we also engage our revered Cultural Practitioners to assist in Embedding Language & Culture.
